M adoptee born 11/29/69 in Syracuse ISO info

I was born in Syracuse, NY 11/29/69 and adopted through the Family Court, Onondaga County Department of Social Services in January 1970. I have registered with the Adoption Registry in Albany and the ISRR. From non-identyifying info I have been able to obtain, my birthmom was 27 and my birthdad was 28(?) when they had me. They were not married at the time, but apparently did intend to marry some day. There were no siblings listed at the time of my birth. My birthmom was a secretary and my birthdad was a mechanic. Am trying to find out additional info on how to further search, to see if I have brothers/sisters, or half brothers/sisters. I petitioned the Family Court and contacted the registry in Albany and was pretty much told that it would take the Supreme Court to open my records. Any info on how else to search would be appreciated. Good luck to everyone out there searching.

re: your syracuse search....

Gregg,
I have a few questions about your search & what you've dome so far. Have you contacted the agency as well as the NY registry for Non-Id?? You might get more info. How long ago did you request your non-id? Wondering if You registered with NY state for both identifying & Non- Idendtifying?
Have you contacted the support/search group in Syracuse called the Triangle of Truth? (let me know if you want their contact's email address.
You also might want to check in some of the old syracuse newpapers near your dob, since turning 18 to see if your mother or other relative ever placed an ad, or place one your self..
Good Luck!!
Kathy

Hi Kathy. Thanks for the info. I first contacted the NY registry for identifying info, then changed my mind and had them change it to non-identifying, and after more consideration decided to change it back to identifying info. They sent me the contact info for Social Services that handled the adoption. Social Services sent me info concerning the age of my birthparents, height, weight, hair/eye color, education, religious affiliation, race, and a little bit of info concerning the reason for adoption. It was a strange feeling to have that kind of info and no names to place with it...and it answered some questions that I had had all of my life on the circumstances surrounding the adoption....(I always thought it was teenagers too young to raise me......was really weird finding out they were in their late 20's....). I then sent a notarized letter to the Family Court that handled the adoption to see if there was a way I could petition the court to get my original birth certificate. They sent a letter back that they could not release that sort of info. I also called the NY registry in Albany and they too told me that it basically takes an act from the Supreme Court to release that info to me and normally only in extreme cases of medical necessity..
I haven't heard of the Triangle of Truth. What are they about? Yes, please send contact info if you have it.
I also hadn't thought about the newspapers....do you know if there is a way to go about searching those online? Is there a main paper for the Syracuse area that I should try and research...or maybe the New York Post?? I was wondering if there was a way to check births at the local hospitals, but I don't know what the name of the hospitals are in Syracuse. My birth certificate says Liverpool..??
Thank you again for all of the info. I greatly appreciate it.

Gregg
