Name on order of adoption
Hi - another question. My Order of Adoption lists my name, but the last name is SMITH! Can anyone tell me if that might be a psuedonym?
Thanks. |

Wow that sure is a tough call and especially a popular name!! if that doesnt add to the aggravation I cant imagine what would!!
Im not an adoptee from NY so maybe someone else can comment on your question.. I just wanted to post because this caught my eye.. Good luck.. Yvonne.

Thanks, Yvonne. Yeah, it's frustrating. Before entering the Smith haystack looking for a needle, I want to make sure I'm not in the wrong field!

I don't know specific practices for New York, but it would have to be whatever legal name was given to you at birth…or the legal document wouldn’t be valid…they cant just put whatever name they want on there and viola, the adoption is done!
Its probably your legal birth name…although it may or may not be your birthmothers last name! If you can obtain your OBC, she’d be listed.

Hey My mom's bfamily name is Smith
![]() Luckily I know them... But they are spread FAR and WIDE in the NE. Also , my bdaughter's legal name was not on the adoption papers... They put her adopted name (and I can't figure out how that's legal). Maia
