Newspaper birth listings question

Hi - I'm newly taking up a search. Can anyone tell me whether in 1967 ALL births would have been published in the newspaper?

All of the births I see list two parents - every single one of them listed as Mr. and Mrs. Since my BP were not married, what should I take from this?

Many thanks.

No, not all births are listed in the paper (generally).
When births are in the papers, they often are based on information "released" from the health dept & hospitals.. if you were adopted at birth, rather relinquished for adoption, they wouldn't/should not have, released your information. Where were you born? that also will make a difference possibly, there are often differences in many things, when comparing county to county in NY.

Hi ksb,

I was born in Onondaga County to a single mother and released into foster care through Catholic Charities.

Thanks! Carol

Most hospitals took it upon themselves to not release the names of unmarried woman who had babies. Some maternity homes also made sure it didn't hit the paper.

I have read about Vietnam era cases where hospitals would not put the birth announcements in the paper of women whose husbands had been killed in action. So silly, like there is a stigma there.

I would think it couldn't hurt to look.

1965 newspaper birth anouncements was the first place I looked when I began my search and every birth listed then was only as a mr. and mrs. Just recently when I FINALLY received my hospital birth records, there in bold type was:

NOT FOR PUBLICATION_BABY FOR ADOPTION

I'm sure that was par for the course with just about any adoption.

Chris
