Search Angels

I have heard great things about "search angels" that will look up information in the Birth Index in Manhattan. Who are they? Where do you find them? Any reputable ones? I live out of NY State and I need someone to do some research for me. Thanks!

You can look these up yourself thru interlibrary loans through the LDS Family History centers, and save your self some money.. It is time consuming & you will need to search the correct borough, as BC numbers are repeated in all five boroughs..

Talking Search Angels

Please note that Search Angels are just that....they help for free (or for cost of travelling to view these records) Also, ksb51 has great information too!! The only thing I have heard is that some of the microfiche records are missing or not operational....I hope yours isn't as I think the LDS interlibrary loan is actually the best way to go so you can see for yourself!!

I went to the Church of Latter Day Saints Family History Center to search on microfilm and they told me that my birth year "1970" was not even on microfilm yet.

birth index

Hi Carolyn nc gave you the addy. Go to our site http://www.nyadoption.org/ and you can read more about her. Click on the link in the red box that says if you need help searching birth index. I guess she does charge but from what I hear it is very minimal compared to the time it takes to do this. She will give you a quote. Gina

Thumbs up

I just used Joyce at emptyarms2003@aol.com.
Joyce was wonderful. I gave her my information on Thursday evening, and she had my birthname on Saturday night. Her website is www.nycbiss.com.

Thank you so much for letting me know that. Have you done anything further since you have learned of your birthname?

No not yet. I just found out this past weekend. In my situation, my birthmother came from Ireland, so I need to do a little more homework to find out where to go next.
