My husband actually found out his birthname because someone made a mistake. When his adopted parents picked him up at the New York foundling, they were shocked to see that he was still wearing his original hospital bracelet with his birth name on it. We thought that would make our search easier, but no such luck! We wish you the best of luck in your search also.

My son's foster parents wrote his birthname on the back of a photo which was in the baby book they passed along to the adoptive parents. The first name was the same as mine, the last name was an alias.

When my adoption was finalized (21mos after my birth) in the county court, my adoptive parents were given quite a few (I think actually all copies/atleast four copies) of my "Order of adoption".. which listed my birthname.
Do you know what county your adoption was finalized in, or the city, and the agency?
Kathy

I am searching on behalf of a friend. She was born in the City of Schenectady (Schenectady County) and adopted through Albany County Social Services. The documents that her parents have do not include anything with her birthname (or parents' names) on them. Thanks.

My husband is adopted. He found out when he was 16. He went to get his savings book to make a deposit at the bank from a paper route he had. His Adopted parnets thus far, and I've been married to him for 16 years (he's 50) have not said one word to him since he found them. He's been without them in his life for over 30 yers now and I think it's a total shame. He has found his bio family, only because he read the obits and saw his birth name. Sure enough when he showed up at the funeral parlor, he was over come with joy because the brothers and one sister he has knewof him but nothing more. To this day, they are a family of closeness and love.

I gave my two girls up for adoption about 3 months before I met Mike, we tried everything we could to get them back, spent about 10 grand in legals, and to this day we are still searching.

Kind Regards,

Bluespirit
(Carol)

I am glad to hear that your husband has had a happy experience w/ his birth family. I hope I have the same. I was adopted @ 3 months old and growing up felt loved and experienced some of the same woes " normal" families experience but in adult life I don't have that same LOVED feeling.I have made choices in my life that were not the best and am living those choices right now. It has taken me several!!!!! years to love myself and still working on other aspects...like finding my family. I live in the same city I grew up in and my mom and dad live 10 minutes from me in either direction....I don't really see except holidays..and usually don't see my dad. I hope that when I find my famly I will have a positive experience and the family that I long for so much.
Good luck w/ your girls ...keep the faith I have been lookng for so many years and am still praying.......Arenette

Birth Name

My birth name was in a family bible (I was a foster child for three years prior to adoption). Also, it was located in my pediatric records. There were a few pages they forgot to change the name once the adoption was finalized.

My B-mothers name was on my adoption papers. I was born in Oswego, NY on 4/18/60.

The same was true for my A-brother, born near Buffalo, NY on Feb. 1, 1963.

I don't know if this is something that was done during a certain time frame or by a certain agency, but we were born 3 years apart, in different cities, to different families, and the information was right there on the papers.

I don't know which agency my A-parents used, however, if anyone out there thinks it would help to know, let me know and I ask my A-mom.

It may help to know what agency was used. I am searching for my daughter born 4/27/71 at Our Lady of Victory Infant Home in Lackawanna/Buffalo NY. We have gone to OLV and they are helping us as much as they are allowed. I am a birthfather so my search is much harder since father's had no rights back then. They are allowing me to put updated medical information in my daughter's file in case she is looking for me. I've also joined a support/search group called PACES of WNY who help by pointing you in the right direction and try to get around the walls that are put up at the time of adoption.

ISO birthdaughter, Michelle Marie, dob 4/26/71 - mother's name Colleen Bigelow - born 8:02 am - brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion - father is irish-german decent - blonde hair, blue eyes.

message for "sweet nothings"

Sweet Nothings.. I live in Rochester & was hoping I coupld be of assistance to you w/ your search... since you & your brother have surnames. If you register with the NYS registry (as adoptee or as another) You will be given the opportunity to have your name & contact info given to any siblings, or Bparents should they register, before the info is released.. getting Non-id from them WILL give you the name of the agency used. If you are Catholic, possibly Catholic Charities was used.. if not, possibly a DSS (dept. of soial services) agency was used (in the 60s right?).. I tried to send you a private message, but this was not enabled by your adoption forums current setting unfortunatley. If you click on My Profile, you can send me a private message if you'd like some help. Kathy
