Okay, I am not interested in having a debate about vaccinations; but I was wondering if anyone has used a religious exemption for their adopted children to be excluded from the now mandatory flu and pneumonia vaccines required for attendance in NJ daycares; and if it was a problem.

Ugh, these new mandates are driving me nuts.
My knowledge on this is that you can only be all or nothing, you can't try to get exemption on some vaccinations and not others. But if your adopted kid was foster before you had no choice but to get the shots...so now that kid is adopted maybe you could start with the religious exemption? Please let me know if you find a way out of this. My now adopted almost 3 yo is going to start preschool in the fall.

Yes, I had no choice when he was foster; but I resent that the state is interfering with my right to decide his care.

Thanks for the site. I found a memo from the state that explains that they will accept religious exemptions, so I will print it out and submit it with my request to the daycare director. I'll let you know what happens.

We're going to potentially run into this, too. My understanding is that you're better off submitting the RE and not telling them the child was ever vaxed. And honestly, if you're submitting RE there's no reason they'd think the child WOULD have been vax'd.
We run into problems with my bio because he had vaxes through 6mo and then got medical exemption. Well, because he was vax'd EVER, we will always have to provide record of the vaxes. And now it's a part of his permanent school record--so wherever we go, the record goes. ![]()

Well, submitted my exemption memo; it was uneventful, the director didn't even blink.
