Ellipses So the countdown

continues - I spoke with our RFW - and she said she will be submitting our waiver to licensing on the 18th - the 18th I asked - she advised that supervisor would be in to sign off on it - so like I said the countdown continues. I am just to the point where something needs to happen ((({big sighs}))) thanks for letting me vent

The waiting is so hard!!! But, it seems like nothing when you finally do get a placement.

What is a waiver, btw?

Well basically my dh had an assult charge that was dismissed that showed up on his fingerprints - even though it was dismissed it is still grounds for our application to be denied - but since it happened so far back (15 years ago)they needed to know what degree it was to begin with - and when we finally got the dispositon it said no degree assigned. So our RFW supervisor agreed to sign a waiver stating that they would still grant us to become a resource family. No guaruntees that the licensing Dept would ok it but he said he was going to give us his recommendation. He spoke extensively with Dh and we were always honest and upfront about it which he thank us for - so now it's time to sit and wait lol - thanks for reading I know it's long

oh, how frustrating that must be for you guys!! You are trying to do something so great by being foster parents and to have it held up by this kind of snag...

I'm sending good vibes your way!!

Thank you so much - I understand that they need to make sure they are not pulling children from their unsafe homes to be place in another unsafe home - but they really put us through the ringer especially since the courthouse had a flood - but thank GOD when my DH went down there he was not biasedly treated - the supervisor talked to him like a human person and did everything in his power - even gave him his card and told him to have our Rfw's Supervisor to call him personally that he would even sign an affidavit. thanks for the vibes...

You are such a trooper Joei! Hang in there--it will be approved. (I don't know how DYFS could hold juvenile/young adult conduct against anyone. Most people make some type of mistake they regret around that time! For example, my hideous tattoo...LOL)

While you're waiting, you can (if you haven't already):

-Get info. on area daycare centers and/or area schools and the process to enroll, etc. If you're open to infants-toddlers, it's always a good idea to call the centers that you determine to accept vouchers and inquire about their availability every month. Knowing off-hand in the event of a placement has proved invaluable to me.

-Get a "welcome kit" together for your expected little one. For babies, you need a couple different types of formula (one Nestle's GoodStart milk-based and one soy-based to be safe--Nestle's was recommended to me by an ER doc. as the brand to go with for a sudden transition between milks since we didn't know what my baby was drinking prior to her removal). If you try milk-based and see exema-like rashes, etc., go with soy instead. Also, get the small cans because you'll have to figure out what they like and inevitably waste one); pajamas; pacifiers; and perhaps a couple of different bottles. All of my babies have come with dollar-store bottles and pacifiers so keep those on hand too, just incase!

For young children, you can put together a bag with a stuffed animal, fun blanket, pillow, toothbrush, toothpaste, pajamas, fun towel, night lights, etc....or any items you think of to help a little one feel welcome when they arrive--like you were expecting them to come that very second. Our daughter was dropped off at 9:00 p.m. on a Friday night...

-continue to educate yourself on attachment issues and read up on how to successfully integrate a new (and likely freshly traumatized) child into your family. Most of my foster children were removed just hours before they arrived.

We preparing to adopt another baby or child--not sure if it will be through DYFS or a private agency--so all of these things are on my mind too.

Happy waiting!
Jennifer

Joei, I don't know if you're looking for babies, but if you are, I recommend signing up for formula samples. I signed up for samples with the big formula companies - Similac & Enfamil sent me samples AND formula checks, and Nestle sent me formula checks and other coupons for Gerber stuff. Also, Playtex sent me a bottle with disposable liners. Good stuff to have in a pinch.
