Foster care & pre-school question

Good evening roomies

I am still waiting, with my fingers and toes crossed, for my placement call. But, had a question. My bio son is 3 1/2 and attends Christian pre-school.

IF, I were to be placed with say a 3 year old, who should rightfully be in pre-school, would DYFS help with the monthly cost? Where we live, the sending district does not offer pre-school, so you have to do it on your own.

Just a question I thought I would put out there.

I have a lot of hope, when reading all of the stories on here.

dyfs will pay for childcare if you work, but i'm not sure about preschool. that is a good question!

does your son's school have any scholarships for students? you could ask- they may do something like this for a foster child.

Check to see if the pre-school is a lisenced daycare - better chance of them paying I would think.

Scholarship is a great advise too!

DYFS pays for childcare. I'm sure preschool too. The only thing is that they pay only a subsidy so if your school charges $1000, they may only pay $600 of it. I would do research. I benefit because I work in childcare and receive a discount, so what they pay covers the amount I would owe. I do know that they will only pay if it's a licensed center.

I wonder if Head Start would be free (if you have that near you)...?

My fc is in pre-school and DYFS pays the stipend. I pay $125/wk out of pocket (includes my employer discount). Depending on where you are, you may be able to find a place that will accept the stipend as full pay.

paying for childcare

If you live in Burlington county, you can have bccap pay for childcare. The childcare, home or daycare, must be licensed and accept bccap payment. If bccap doesn't cover the entire tuition, then dyfs will pick up the difference. I'm not sure if other counties have similar support.

Nope... that is a SWEET deal. If I can't cover what the daycare subsidy leaves unpaid, it comes out of my stipend check. "That's what it's for" was the response.

Granted, I've never been in a position where the difference would require more than the stipend--so I'm not sure how it would work then.

Does anyone know of any current day cares in Monmouth County or Ocean County area that has DYFS spots that just take the voucher? I've called a few but alot dont just take the voucher. Just wondering if anyone out there knows of any day cares that only take the voucher as payment. Thanks.

Kimyas, ask Pat & Beth who administers the daycare stipends for Monmouth & Ocean. Then call them, and ask for a list. That worked for me! I think Somerset even had a list on their website. Not all just take only the voucher, but it's a good starting point. Good luck! How are classes going?
