Drunk during visit??
So, my FS had his 2nd visit yesterday with his bios (this is the 1st time his biomom came)...I am almost positive I smelled alcohol on her breath. (She was previously incarcerated for a drunken assault). But, I'm NOT positive it was alcohol I smelled. Both his parents are addicts. I guess there is no policy in place to ensure family member are sober when they have visits? Doesn't it make sense that there should be? I know it would be very expensive, but we're talking about the kids' safety!
Do I address this? I have no proof, and I don't want to accuse her of something that may be untrue..well, I guess I answered my own question. I don't address this. This also brings up another issue...if she drinks, there is a good chance that the baby was not only exposed to cocaine, but also alcohol. Yuck...alcohol exposure scares me more than drug exposure. I guess I won't know until I get his birth records (and I may not ven know then), although I will ask his CW about this the next time I see her. |

Irelady,
In NJ, parents are subject to random drug-tests at visits but, you're right, not breathalizers. If I were you, I would mention it to the caseworker because if they were to reunify your child you would be regretful you didn't. Just say what you've said here: mom's breath smelled of alcohol, you could be wrong, but wanted to mention it to be safe. Best wishes, Jennifer
