Hi again. I was wondering what type of support your family, friends and employers have given you regarding becoming/being a foster family.

I feel very supported by my family and friends. My sisters have both offered me things like cribs, changing table clothes and toys.

My supervisor is pretty supportive right now, but I'm not sure what will happen once I recieve a child and have to deal with time off becasue of getting settled in with a child or a sick child needing me home to care for him/her. I am a manager at a Child Development Center and we are going through an accreditation process and have lost some employees for various reasons. I have been working a lot of overtime (of course with out the extra money because I'm salary). I guess I'm just a little concerned and curious how it has effected your work/life balance.

Since I work in the early childhood field, I have many families that can be a support to me once I get the courage to tell them what I will be doing. I have actually discussed this with one of the children's mom because she is an adoptive parent and has been through a lot of the same things. She has been WONDERFUL! She has already given me an enormous bag full of toys and stuffed animals. She just gave me an infant swing too. She has been a great resource for us!

BOY after reading this post over, I'm hoping my request for a child birth-5 years old turns out to be a baby boy. I just realized that everythign I am getting so far is for baby boys LOL!

Thanks for "listening"!

Toni

I am still in the middle of the process to be licensed and have had mixed responses.I have two young biological sons and some people have said that I could be exposing them to too much . I am also looking for a child under 5 and I think my family can handle any bad situations. I know in my heart that this is what I should be doing and I cannot let anyone change my mind, especially people who know nothing about foster children.Every child has a right to a loving home. I do not work out of the home so my situation is different. To sum it up go with your heart.
