I'm in Somerset County

and only 1 of my 3 placements have been from Somerset County. I wouldn't worry if I were you. DYFS would like to keep kids close to home but the reality is that often doesn't play out.

Welcome to the madness...

I am in Burlington county. I have only been called for 1 sib group from my home county. It was a weekend emergency in which they called us at 11pm,

Our current son (we are adopting) is from Cumberland and his sister (who will be arriving shortly) is from Gloucester.

I don't get a alot of calls right now...only one or two a week. But, with his sister arriving in the next week or so, we will be full.

The ones I get calls for are outside our limits. Last week, we got a call for a 15 year old hispanic boy from Salem county. Spanish speaking only. And, I haven't had Spanish since college!!!

You will get calls...believe me. When we first started last year, we were getting calls hourly. With winter fast approaching and the cost of heating fuels, calls will be coming again, I'm sure.

Congrats and welcome!

I'm in Burlington too. You will definately get calls. The holiday season can get busy. Burlington is definately slower than other counties, but your phone will ring.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad I found a NJ forum

I'm glad to know we won't wait forever. My family is patiently awaiting little ones. I also heard in class you will get calls for children in age groups you didn't request. So if anyone has anymore info please let me know.. Thanks

you will get calls outside your age range and/or other requirements. you'll also get calls that will put you over capacity, let the worker know what your capacity is, sometimes they don't know how many kids you have. they can get permission to change your capacity, it's DYFS's responsibility to do this, not yours.

You'll also get calls for sibling groups and a sibling may be outside of your range. you and dh need to decide how flexible your requirements are.

Your resource worker will be very helpful when it comes to anything you need. I wish they were around when we first became foster parents.

Be sure to ask a ton of questions when the phone rings.

Have fun finishing your homestudy and liscencing. This is by far the easiest part of the whole process.
