Daycare questions

Has anyone had the state pay for daycare in southern NJ? I'm just wondering whether they'll pay for daycare for our soon to be adopted son so I can go back to school? Also wondering if they'll continue to pay once he's adopted? He's 2 yrs old, so it would definately help if they paid as it'll be a few years of daycare until he's old enough for school. Also who did you get it approved through: family worker, caseworker, supervisor ?????
Thanks in advance,
Leena

From what I understand if the child is " classified" then you can negotiate prior to the adoption to have dayacre paid. I have one that will probably still be in daycare when adoption goes through (at least we hope he will - if the TPR EVER happens- kids in care over 2 years now ) and was told because he is special needs classified, I can negotiate ( and yes that's how they say it ) to get daycare paid.

Our 3rd son will receive an adoption subsidy once we finalize as he's classified as "speccial needs" due to race and age. I guess I need to talk to the worker about it.

In NY you can get daycare assistance only for work. My friend had major surgery and has to pay back what was paid to daycare by the state for the time she was off to recover. Higher learning doens't qualify.

Hi Leena,

I'm not sure about your question. However, in the event you're not able to secure daycare through DYFS, here's my advice:

Check with the college you intend on attending as many colleges now provide daycare for pennies on the dollar. For example, NJCU offers daycare for $3/hour to part-time and full-time students. Alternatively, you might be able to work out a babysitting arrangement with another student -- babysitting each other's children on alternate days or class periods -- for free.

Another suggestion is evening, weekend, or online courses when either your husband can cover for you for a few hours or when your children are sleeping.

In Salem County, daycare paid for by Tri County Head Start. They are paying for daycare for C even after the adoption is finalized until he is six. Because of his status, our work and school status didn't matter. Talk to his worker about who subsidizes by you.

I'll have to ask his worker about it. It would be great if they'd pay for preschool next year and daycare when I go back to school. We've just been insanely busy here lately. So it's on my calander for next week.
Thanks.
