Annual Training Requirements

My home inspection is annually in November. Did your inspector ask for evidence of the training hours for the current year? My worker told me I need 10 hrs. by November.

I will meet my requirements - I'm just curious if the inspector checked..

We just had our inspection August 30. There were some changes in the requirements. She didn't ask about ours because it was our first year and PATH training covered it.

The requirements changed...I can't remember right now but it's either 12 or 15 hours now. But, videos are available through FAFS to help with the requirements.

Did you get the new manual? There were some other changes but nothing major.

We have been asked for proof of our trainings each year by BOL. FAFS does a great job of sending out transcipts.

The new manual does have some important changes:
1. No smoking in the resource home
2. carbon monoxide detectors
3. Annual physicals for resource parents with documentation/medical references
4. Criminal Background checks upon renewal
5. Prohibiting homeschooling of foster children
6. reduced capacity (no more than 6 children total->foster/adopted/bio), no more than 4 children below the age of 6, no more than 2 children below the age of 2, no more than 2 non-ambulatory children
7. change in training requirements

Hi There!
Since we are covered under the same county for Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren, I think you would reach out at BOL at # 609-514-3791. That is for the supervisor, Annette Fitzsimmons.
Do you have the name of your BOL Inspector? You may want to start there.

And yes, she did ask me for certification of my hours!

Yep

Yep they asked about my training although the Licensing Inspector seemed surprised that I actually KNEW I was supposed to be doing training this year. From here on, we will be required to have 15 hours of training. Or 10. Cause they don't know yet. Of course.

Did you know you can order VHS tapes for training from FAFS?

Our inspector mentioned this when she was here. I checked it out this morning and ordered our first tape.

FAFS Home Correspondence Course Descriptions

Here's the link...

Thanks for the info. Yes, I knew about FAFS Home Correspondence Courses. I just returned the Drug Exposed Newborns tape.

Just spoke with the supervisor (thanks for the number Tammi). She said the Training Academy is not quite where they want it to be at this point. If I show proof of ANY training in the last year I will be fine during inspection.

BTW, I attended the discipline I class yesterday (last of my required courses) and it really was a good class. The manual is really a good resource for practical ideas on discipline.

Disclinpline I class in Edison THIS Friday 9/15

Is anyone wanting to take the Disclinpline I class in Edison THIS Friday 9/15 at 10:30 AM?

My wife and I can take the time and go, but they will cancel the class if more people don't register. A friend of ours told us "It was definitely a good class. Goes by very fast." and the post above was also compliementary of this class.

It is this Friday 9-15 from 10:30am-1:30pm :
Edison Public Library 340 Plainfield Ave. Edison, NJ

I just spoke to the training coordinator, Leslie Johnson.
They need more students to register or they will cancel the class. So far, it's just my wife and me. They need a minimum of 5. She will check her answering machine nd see if more people have called to register recently.

If you are interested, call 1-800-847-0568, Ext. 199
On the machine, leave:
full name(s) of participant(s)
your area code and telephone number
name of course: Discipline I
date and location of course:
Friday 9-15 10:30am Edison Public Library

If you call 1-800-847-0568 and immediately press 0, you'll reach Leslie.

Thanks!
Dan
