DYFS keeps breaking my heart.
We have been approved since mid Sept. we waited a few weeks and no one called, but in the past 2 weeks, they have called 3 times looking for placement for children that need just foster parents, each time I talk to them I go throught a small perido of sadness at having to say no, I have even cried.
We are looking at this time for fost/adopt and a child younger than our bio dd. They even called me for a 10 year old boy that has been in the US for one week and speaks no English ( I speak Spanish) that was the hardest. I still think about him. I know the right call will come in time but in the mean time, gosh I wish it was easier. |

It can be a long wait. There are always children in need of foster homes. Your requirements may just limit the number of adoptive children you're called for. Hang in there. It can take months to years to be matched if you have very strict requirements.

talk to them
there must be something off in your profile since it seems that they are looking for emergency placements (taking them is the beest way to build a relationship with them BTW) if I were you I'd call the placement division (ask the next sw to call you with an inappropriate placement who the apporipriate person would be to talk to) so that they can update your profile. it will take longet to get a foster/adopt placement but if you are listed correctly taht will reduce the amount of calls you get that you have to refuse.

I'm not sure what your requirements are, but they may just not match any of the available children. It could be that the available children have more special needs than your willing to deal with, or your racial requirements could be very strict. I know NJ doesn't have a lot of CC children in fost/adopt. Each one of your specific requirements narrows the field of children.
I know we were presented with some fost/adopt children who we didn't feel comfortable accepting into our family, so we had to say no. I also know there were plenty more out there who also didn't meet our requirements. It just takes time to find a good match. And when the child comes along you'll know it. When Om arrived I immediately fell in love with him and even watched him sleep the first night. I just had to keep on pinching myself to make sure he was real. Then the honeymoon was over and we had a lot to deal with. When Raj arrived it was so different. He just fit in perfectly and acted like he'd been with us forever. Raj was definately an easy adjustment. You can take this waiting time to read more on developmental delays, abuse, neglect, take the classes for liscencing in NJ. Foster and Adoptive Family Services (non-profit) has free correspondence classes you can take to maintain your liscence. And they're very very helpful classes. Hang in there, LeenaB
