Fost / Adopt Program

My husband and I are currently trying to adopt our 16-month old son and have run into a few minor (hopefully) snags and I could use someone neutral to talk to. Thanks.

What they tell you about this program is not the real thing. It is hard and you have to be really strong - especially in our case. We are going to trial to see whether or not we can "keep" our son or he gets returned to the maternal side of his birth family.

Beth - It is not a joke - just difficult. It is a wonderful experience to give a child a home but you just have to be prepared that you may lose that child after a length of time. In our case, our son was placed with us when he was 6 weeks - and after 15 1/2 months we are going to trial within the next several months to see whether he stays with us or gets returned to his maternal side of his birth family. Tammi, Do you know of any couple whose adoption was actually finalized? We are in the permanancy phase and are praying it will move quickly. They are going through the relative searches now. Very scarey for us. We love our baby so much.

Debbie - So far, I know of one couple who was able to adopt the little girl that they brough home when she was 3 weeks old. She is almost 3 now and the adoption just became final in January 2001. It is a long and scary process - our court date starts on 2/28 - wish us luck. Where do you live???

We were told he was available for adoption. We went to the child placement review board within the court systems. Everything was going along fine until another couple came out of the woodwork and want to adopt him. Apparently they adopted his half- sibling. The Adoption Resource Center wants to remove him from my home and put him in the other couple's home.We are devestated to say the least. We go back to court at the end of the month. Please let me know of your situation. I would like to hear from you.
