My mother was born and adopted in Newark, NJ, on August 9, 1948. I forget the name of her adopted father, but his last name was Hoofman. His wife, Sabina, had a maiden name of Paskewicz. (not that that may help any). The chances are pretty slim of discovery, considering the vastness of the population and the fact that they may not be alive, but it would nice to know certain details--family health history, religion, and so on--not just for my mother's sake but for mine as well. It would be nice for my mother to be connected with a family to which she biologically belongs, and to give her, for the first time in her life, a sense of belonging. In my opinion, though she hasn't explicitly stated it, I think her adoption into a non-intimate family--as an only child--has left a void in her life. Though she's approaching 60, she needs a family through which to seek validation as well as self-identification. We'll see what happens...
