I notice from your profile that you are in Kansas. I am not familiar with how things "work" within the Kansas system, but in Indiana, if a judge requires proof of birthparent death, that usually means that there is a "non-disclosure" in your file -- in other words, your birthmother requested that no information be shared.
I used the state's confidential intermediary program to locate my birthmom last year, and she refused contact. The courts mandated the files sealed until her death, at which time, I would be eligible to re-open the case, and have my nearest living sibling contacted. My intermediary said that she monitors all of her refusal files and when a birthparent from one of those cases passes away, she makes contact with the adoptee to see if they want the case reopened. She mentioned up front that my request for a CI would have been denied if there had been a "non-disclosure" in my file... Is there any way you could make a request, thru the courts, to see if there was such a request in your file? Hugs, Sally

Yes
We live in KS but the records are in NE unfortunately. If they were in KS they would be open. They will not even tell us if there is a non contact disclosure! It is so frustrating. We think birthmom and dad are both probably dead but no way to find out w/o a name!

Have you gotten you non-id info yet? Who handled your adoption?? You have to write a letter to request it. Adoption records are only open in a few states. Get back to me after you have gotten the info about your adoption etc Thanks bblady1@msn.com
