Omaha Birth Announcements

I was born in Omaha in 1970, and I've requested a microfilm copy of the Omaha newspaper for the month after my birth, to check birth announcements. I don't know my bmom's name but I know her maiden name was Irish, and the name she gave me. It seems like an extreme longshot, since I assume the paper wouldn't normally list the births of babies schedueld to be adopted, but I've read that it's worth trying because sometimes mistakes are made. Has anyone else tried this with the Omaha paper and had any success?

Omaha World Hearald

Jon,
Good luck with that approach. I was told by the Omaha World Hearald that they did not list births that were from single parents. However, things have changed since 1955. I know our Kansas City Star does list births with only one parent. All the best.

I know when my niece was born (1996) that they listed her name in the newspaper...she was born to a single mother. She was not given for adoption, so I don't know if they would list adoptions.

I currently work at the World-Herald, so I will do a little checking and see what I can find out. I never thought about looking up my birth in the newspaper...I was born in 1973.

I checked the birth announcements yesterday. They only listed married couples.

Please Contact Me!!

Azza,

My birthdate is January 24, 1973 (or at least that is what my adoptive birthcertificate says). I was actually working with someone from Health and Human Services about a year and a half ago on the search and got no where..they closed my file last June.

Here is my basic info that I know...bithday is above...female...born at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha...Private closed adoption through douglas county court system..My adoptive parents think my birth mother may have been about 15. I will send you a private message with my e-mail if you would like to contact me...I would love to hear from you even if this isn't a match...maybe you have some ideas on which direction I could go in next or I might be able to provide you with some guidance!!

Thanks for the contact!!

go to the library in Omaha and look up all the Irish's in the Omaha area in 1970; This can either be in the old phone book or in the Polk directory and then get back to me

Linda,

Thanks for asking. Azza and I have been in contact for a few weeks now and have exchanged some pictures. It is possible it could be a match! I can see some similarities. We are doing some additional research to see what else we can find. We have some hope.

I now have a birth mother's name, birthdate, and date of death (unfortunitly the birth mother being researched passed away in 1996). Luckly the birth mother had many siblings, so I might find some additional family (if this is my birth family).

If it isn't a match, I think I found another person to keep in contact with that maybe in our searches can help each other.

I'll keep the board posted as to my search!

Have you contacted Catholic Charities to see if they can help you?
