The U.S. State Department has announced that the Ukraine Parliament (Rada) has passed a law, now waiting to be signed by the President, that should reopen the National Adoption Center in Ukraine until a new adoption authority can be established. Additionally, "The U.S. Embassy in Kiev strongly urges American prospective adoptive families who had previously-scheduled January appointments NOT to travel to Ukraine until such time as the NAC has issued a notice publicly confirming that those appointments will be honored."
After questions arose late last year about follow up reports not being filed by adoptive parents, and a decision to establish a new adoption authority, all processing of international adoptions in Ukraine stopped so that a new adoption authority could be organized. It appears that this new law was passed to cover the interim period.
