I wish that it didn't have to get to this point. I mean at the point when there is a baby then it's too late. Yes, it's far better to leave the child at a safe haven then in the garbage. But it would be even better if there was a place where they could go while pregnant without fear of judgement. Even a phone number or internet site where they could go and get support and FACTS without having to worry about being judged or pushed in one direction or another.
I'm sure that places like this do exist through other state funded or charity programs but they are the things that need to have commercials for them. I'm not sure if they've done any real good studies of women who use safe havens or abandon their children. The key is to figure out WHY they do it. Is it because they are afraid of the reaction of their parents? Is it because they don't know that they are pregnant (or are in si much denile they don't let themselves believe it)? Figure out the real problem and address that. Until then safe havens are just band aids.
