Adopting and adoptive parents tend to be well aware of the federal tax credit - raised this year to a maximum of $10160 per child for all types of adoption, but what about state tax benefits? Well, Missouri has a $10,000 *state* tax credit - available for domestic *special needs* adoptions, but it has also been allowed for international adoptions, based partly on the ethnicity of internationally adopted children.

The Missouri Legislature has doubled the cap - to $4 million, with half earmarked exclusively for in-state adoptions and the other half open to credits for out-of-state (including international) special needs adoptions.
