Daycare Question

We are currently seeking to adopt through fostercare, and have been certified for several months now. A couple of questions regarding daycare as we make decisions regarding the ages of children we will take:

-Does the state currently pay for daycare for foster children?
-Post adoption, does the state continue to pay for daycare, or is that discontinued and subsidy the only support from the state?

We are not looking for a "free ride" from the state, but as we are currently being considered for a very young sibling group, we need to scrutinize our expenses and factor in the cost of daycare, and we need to factor in whether the state continues to pay for daycare. We want to be as informed as possible before accepting any placement that may be a financial burden to us. Hope this makes sense! Thanks!

The state does currently pay for daycare, however they pay a vendor amount I think is around $60.00 a week per child. So when looking for a daycare you need to ask if they accept what vendor pays. If they say no, then you are liable for the remaining amount. It is very hard to find a daycare that will only accept vendor. Also it only pays if you are your spouse are full time employed or full time students. It does not pay if one of you is a stay at home parent.

As for post adoption it pays up until age 6. But you also have to request that it be included in your contract. However, that was before all the subsidy cuts began. Things may change now.

Thanks for the information! We know that the state has been changing subsidies - at least there was a lot of talk about it about a year ago. I am a teacher and my husband works fulltime, so we would need daycare during the school year but not in the summer. I'm not sure they would count that as fulltime or not, but I do work fulltime from August to May. However, I teach in the district we live in, and my work day is from 7am - 2:00pm. We are hoping that my working is not a "disadvantage" to us as far as placement is concerned!

The state we live in pays for daycare while the kids are in fostercare. Not sure about after adopting. Your worker should be able to give you the best answers to those questions.
