Virginia adoption, military non-resident
Hi all,
My husband and I moved to Virginia. I am a VA resident, he is an AK resident. We've started working with an independant adoption group. I just read something that non-residents can only adopt in VA if it is an agency adoption? Does anyone know anything about this?? Our caseworker hasn't mentioned anything or asked about residency. I just sent her an email as well. Thanks! Heather |

We are also looking to adopt in VA, we are going through DSS, as we are interested in a special needs child, but we have been told that because we are military, that the normal residency restrictions do not apply. I am a NC resident, and he is a SC resident. As far as the military reimbursement for the adoption though, it must be either through a state run or state approved agency, which limits the list quite a bit.
