reimbursement with facilitator

Hello, we got the decree of adoption for our baby girl today!! Now we want to start the procedure for reimbursement by the Army ($2000). Do they pay even if we used a facilitator?

I don't think so. We submitted the form months ago and haven't heard a thing. We used a facilitator too. I remember reading on the form that you have to use a licensed agency. I don't expect to see any of the 2k unfortunately.

nixe- I would think so. Here is the list:

Qualifying expenses are listed as:
- public/private agency fees, including adoption fees charged by an agency
- placement fees, including fees charged adoptive parents for counseling
- legal fees, including court costs, for services unavailable to a member of the military (which no JAGs assist with as far as I know)
- medical expenses including certain hospital expenses of the birth mom & of the newborn, medical care given to the child before adoption, and physical exams for the birthmom
- temporary foster care charges

Nonqualifying expenses are
- travel expenses
- those associated with an illegal adoption
- surogate parenting arrangement

http://www.nmfa.org/site/DocServer/D...pdf?docID=6722 is a link with the fact sheet.

DDW- On another note, I sent my paperwork in 4 weeks ago and got the money today (which shocked me). You might want to follow up if it's been that long.

We've tried. My DH's command doesn't seem to get anywhere. I'm going to try to figure out on my own who to contact. The $ would be so helpful!

We got ours back quite quickly too. I would definitely try to follow up. You'll probably have to get to someone about your unit level.

Okay figured it out. I called the woman at DFAS (very nice) who does the reimbursements. They never received our paperwork. I have no idea where my DH's command sent it. So we'll fill it out again and send it ourselves. She said the turn around time is really quick.

Nixe-I asked your question and she said the rules were changed recently and they will reimburse.

DDW - Glad you figured it out! I was going to post the phone number for you but then saw your follow up post.

We went direct to DFAS. I took it to my commander for his signature but I mailed the form/documentation off on my own. Like I said it was just under 4 weeks to get the money.

Good luck!
