GOOD NEWS!!!!!

As we speak the leave act is at Congress and Senate to hopefully be put in th FY 2006!!!! The proposal is for 21 days leave - opposed to the ZERO we have now. I'll keep everyone posted

Will this be for all active duty? Or is it for AF? My husband is active AF anyway, but I was just wondering. I think it is wonderful they are considering giving them time off for this. It is very important and my hubby needs to be there.

??? When our son came, DH was given 21 days new daddy leave without any issues. New daddy leave we understood was for birth or adoption of a child, and could be taken by female and male sailors/soldiers. Is this not true of all branches of service?

No, this isn't true for each branch of service. My DH is Navy and he had to request leave for our 2nd son's birth. The leave was counted against his available days and they only allowed him 10! When son !#1 was born, he was on a deployment and they denied his leave request. He did end up coming home after son#1 because I was alone after a c-sec but that was emergency leave and not counted against him.

It seems that in the Navy, it is up to the individual command to make the decision of whether leave is approved. I have never found anything in writing stating that active duty have any rights to "parental leave".

I am new to this board and fairly new to the military as well.
I am not sure what is being said about new daddy leave. Does this mean that AD AF will be given 21 days of leave without it counting against their annual leave? And how can you apply for this?

The CG allows a voluntary seperation for up to 2 yrs (UNPAID) but then you can come back in at the same rank and pay. We''ve also been told that we can apply for 5 days administrative leave but DH's CO doesn't necessarily agree with adoption plan so we'll see about getting that approved! I think any AD should get a mandatory paid leave of 2 weeks after birth or adoption. You'd think after all AD does for everybody else, the Gov would give them a litte bonding time, right?!!

Hi all .... this was passed. You can go to www.jaa.org/other/h1815%5B1%5D.pdf. and you will see it there. If the link does not open, you can "google" H1815 and it should take you to a link.
There is also, I found the other day, http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/i13419wch1_072993/i13419p.pdf this which, if I am reading it right, give the AD member the opportunity to defer deployment away from home station for up to 4 months.
These are for ALL branches, not just one or another. It may be up to the command but that is not how I read the instructions. I have printed out copies so, if Hubby's command says "No", he can say --- "here is the instruction telling me that I can!"
Hope this sheds some light on a cloudy situation.
