adopting in Michigan

Who are you working with? What sort of adoption are you doing?

Have you attended any workshops, trainings or conferences worth sharing with other Michigan families?

Here is the place to network and share!

our family

My husband and I started as foster parents over twelve years ago. We have three birth daughters. We were licensed through a privte agency. Our first son lived with us from the begining until this past December. He was labeled severely mentally impaired. We then adopted our three youngest children. Our youngest son, now twelve and two babies, two and four years. Our family truly was so speical, we truly had been blessed by these precious children. Then one day, my four year old disclosed sexual abuse that had been happening to her...right here in our own home, in the "safety" of her own room!!! By our sons....We love EACH of our kids, even still....it's just such a struggle to get through every day, the many different emotions we each are experianceing...adoption is a wonderful thing, just make sure you know ALL there is to know about the special kids you are priveleged to receive. The first foster care worker involved with our youngest son was told about "concrete" concerns that he may have been being abused by his mother, then getting visits, and she chose NOT to act on it...if she had then it may have saved our family from this hell we are going through today...be careful!

Hi!
We adopted our 3.5 year old daughter from Vietnam and had a wonderful experience. Our daughter has been home with us 7 months and is doing very well. She joined two brothers. If you have any questions about older child adoption, let me know!

We're in southwest MI which is a big area for international adoption.

Best Wishes!
Mary

be careful

Mary,
I am glad for you and your family! Our family was very special too...I could not have wanted more from life!! Our youngest son came to us at just six years old...it's been almost seven years that we've all been together...all I was saying is to get ALL the info you can....BEFORE the adoption...we have even contemplated releasing our parental rights....adoption is truly a wonderful privilege, unfortunately all the workers and "professionals" involved in the process are not what THEY shoud be....be careful!!!
