My wife and I have complete power of attorney of a 17 y/o girl who was under a great aunt's gaurdianship. The girl was originnaly from Maine but moved to TX when her great aunt received legal gaurdianship of her a few years ago. She is now living with us and we want to adopt her--there would be some great benifits to her if we could do this but the expense of going through a lawyer worries me. Can this adoption be done by the child's consent? It is a fairly convoluted situation for her but she would like to be adopted by us as well.
