michigan adop. laws ? aug '68

Hi there... wow, I just typed a looong post and then when I hit the "submit" button... It said I wasnt' logged in and I lost the WHOLE THREAD!!! UGGHHH.. computers!! haha
ANyhow, I am an adoptee, from IL, who recently found her birth mom and birth dad... Because of a WONDERFUL tip that a woman here in IL gave me... Basically, I have a close friend who was born in AUG of 1968, Kim B., That is trying to search. She was born and adopted in Michagan. She recently started the CI search process... and when the searcher located her birthmom, her birthmom declined to have contact with her... AWFUL, I totally did NOT know what to say, except that I wanted to HELP!!! The birthmom I guess has a Husband and "new" daughter that know NOTHING about the Birth/adoption of my dear friend Kimmy. So Kim, told the CI search person, to go ahead and try to find the birth FATHER instead...
My question/comment is this... I was in the process myself of trying the CI search process here in Illinois... I was TRYING to come up with the $500.00's that it costs when I found a link on THIS website to a WONDERFUL woman! When I said, I found my birth family because of a wonderful TIP that was given to me by a birthmom that does searches for people here in Illinois...the tip was this:
Here in Illinois, the state adoption LAW has something in it that goes something like this " the adoptive parents have legal right to a copy of the ADOPTION DECREE with no question within 30 days of the adoption, and after 30 days by order of the court"
So all we had to do was my mother (adoptive) wrote a notorized letter to the judge in the county of my adoption, with a $3 check for 'filing fees' requesting a copy of the decree, and we got it in the mail like 3 or 4 weeks later only!! Here in IL its been found that like 80% of the adoption decree's have AT LEAST the birthmom's last name if not her full name. Mine had her full name (middle too) my brother who is adopted too, got his, it had BOTH birth parents full names. As many of you probably know, once you have a name its MUCH MUCH easier to do a search!!!! And in my situation my birthmom had a "loss of memory" as to what my birthdate was... which may sound odd, but from what I've learned happens alot... so She thought it was like a MONTH diff than what it was... Which made searching date fourums diffacult!!!
Anyhow, my question to all you Michagan adoptee's is do you know if Michagan adoption law is similar... Do any of you know if your aodptive parents have a decree and if there are names on it... OR if they can obtain a copy of it???? My friend has very supportive adoptive parents... which we all know does help the situation!!!
WEll, sorry to babble to you'all.... Thank you for lisetening... and thank you for your help and suggestions!!!
Hugs & prayers to all!!
luv,
Beth Reuschel
