Helping a friend
I have a friend who was adopted when she was like 4 days old. Her actual birthdate, name, birth parents names and actual place of birth are very unknown to her. I say this because she has nothing more to do with her adoptive family, due to abuse and the adoption was a private adoption through a lawyer,
whom is a good friend of her adoptive parents. She was going through a lawyer of her own before to aid in her search for information, because at the time, she was stricken with cancer and was hoping to obtain medical info from her real parents. She ended up having to stop, due to the lawyer fees and expenses. My question is, is there a way around finding out any info. for her at all or no? I hope someone is able to point us in the right direction. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from someone soon! Toni |

As you posted this on the "Michigan Adoption Records" forum I assume that your friend's adoption took place in Michigan. Thesearchguru has posted helpful information on searching resources for each state. Here's the information for Michigan. Best of luck!
WELCOME TO THE SEARCH AND REUNION MESSAGE BOARD! If you know what adoption agency handled your adoption contact them for information from your adoption file that will help you with your search. If you were a private adoption or do not know the name of the adoption agency contact this office: Michigan Child and Family Services Administration P.O. Box 30037, Suite 413 Lansing, MI 48909 (517) 373-3513 Fax: (517) 335-4019 INFORMATION THAT IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR STATE: “Non-identifying information” is information from your adoption file about your birth parents. It generally includes ages, marital status, states of birth, education, religion, occupations and a physical description of your birth parents. It should also include the reason for relinquishment and may include information about your aunts, uncles and grandparents. It is called “non-identifying information” because it does not include any identifying information such as names, addresses or social security numbers. “Mutual Consent Registry” is a registry where adoptees and birth parents can register the adoption information. If both parties register normally the agency responsible for the registry will notify both parties that consent has been given to contact each other. Central Adoption Registry Michigan Family Independence Agency P.O. Box 30037 Lansing, MI 48909 (517) 373-3513 Fax: (517) 335-4019 “Confidential Intermediary Program” is a service sponsored by the state of adoption that will search for and locate the birth family member that you are looking for. This program will make the first contact but if the person contacted declines contact the agency will not give you the information to contact them yourself. There is usually a fee associated with this service through the governing agency of adoptions for your state of adoption. Contact this office: Confidential Intermediary Program Michigan Family Independence Agency P.O. Box 30037 Lansing, MI 48909 (517) 373-3513 Fax: (517) 335-4019 Many blessings on your search journey, Colleen Buckner, THE SEARCH GURU Adoption Genealogist Moderator for Search and Reunion Message Board http://www.adoptionforums.com http://www.adoptionchat.com http://www.adoptionlists.com http://www.adoption.com http://www.adopting.org http://www.adoptionregistry.com

This is how my daughter and I reunited: She contacted Confidential Intermediary Services in Fenton, MI and went through them. If you type "confidential intermediaries in Michigan" in your search engine, a list of intermediaries will come up listed by county. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP! This worked for my daughter and me. I also told a friend about it and she went through the intermediary service and they have located her son in a very short time (2 months).

It would be helpful to have some specific information as to approximate date of birth. This woman should have some form of identification. I am in search of a half sister given up at birth in 1967.
