CPS wants me to quit my job
We were offered a child with a trach and a feeding button. They told us they were temporary and by the time he was free for adoption he wouldn't have them anymore. Now they don't know when they'll come out and now want me to quit my job if I want him so I can take care of him. He's eligible for 96 hours of nursing care a week. Other than the trach and the button he's developmentally on target.
If this fair? |

Not fair
No, it's not fair. With 96 hours of nursing, would that cover when you're working? But as we know as foster parents, we always get much less as a stipend than the costs of care.
So, I guess you need to see what you are able to do, and what you can't, and go from there. It is a very personal decision. |

Wow they are making this difficult on you! Whoever you are dealing with clearly knows nothing about trachs (or feeding tubes I'm sure).
Nope, not fair. I'm surprised that he's eligible for 96 hours of nursing care if he's not on a vent though? From everything I've gotten from you, he's pretty stable, so I don't really understand. I mean, suctioning and trach changes get to be easy and routine. Not to mention that G buttons are super, super easy. With all that nursing care, you should be just fine to work outside the home. If there is anyway to get include pulmonology in these discussions, I think that would be very helpful.

Since I can't quit my job they decided not to give us the child they offered and got attached to.
Very dissappointing. ![]() |
