A Survey for Adult Adoptees and Adoptive Parents about Their Interest in Genetic Counseling Services (Research Study)

I am a genetic counseling student at Boston University School of Medicine. I am conducting a research study surveying adult adoptees and adoptive parents about their interests in genetic counseling services.

Genetic counseling involves collecting a detailed family history to confirm or discuss the chance of inheriting a health condition. When the birth family history is unknown, this cannot be performed which may make it hard to provide all genetic services to adoptees and their families.

As genetic counseling is a new and growing field, we are looking for ways to improve it and extend its availability to all communities. Through this survey, I would like to learn if adoptees and adoptive parents might use genetic counseling and in what situations.

I would be more than happy to participate. I have been diagnosed with Lupus, although we are unsure if it is medication related. I have a major injury and have to take a lot of medication. In doing my own research, I have found that this is considered an inherited disease.
My adoptive Mother will not participate in anything. She tells me my birth mother is dead.(she has no way of knowing.) My adoptive father has passed away.
I have not found any bithparents, however, I have given birth to four children, son 24, daughter 18 and twins(girls) 13.
My son and I both have high cholesterol. We have all at some point during puberty, and now again for me at menopause, has some sort of problems with drop attacks, we just drop out of no where with no etiology and/or some sort of petite mall(not sure how to spell) seizure activity.(ie..Loss of time, loss of memory, staring into space with no memory of it.)my breasts actually kind of oozed blood around puberty for no reason.
All of my children(and I know this sounds bad but it just kind of happened.) have different father, except the twins. I don't know if it will help you but we really watch what happens to all of us that is the same,because then we know it came from my side. We are kind of building our own family medical history.
