Reply to India :

There was no maternity home in Kewanee. If there was one, an unwed pregnant woman might feel embarrassed to be so close to home. If the hospital is omitted from an amended birth certificate, it may be state policy.

My source is the book entitled, "Adoption Agencies, Orphanages and Maternity Homes : An Historical Directory," published in 1982.

Kewanee Illinois

There is a local paper in Kewanee that has been around along time it is called the Star Courier. There is only one hospital in that town and has been there a long long time its name is Kewanee Hospital and both the hospital and newspaper are available online.
Maybe you could attempt to place an ad in the paper for information? That area is very rural area and most people from there tend to stay there and most people there know of everyone. Good luck........

India,
There were two hospitals in Kewanee in the 40's
Kewanee General (still open)
and a Catholic Hospital whose name I can't
remember. I know it was closed down in the the
50's or 60's and turned into apt. as I lived in the
Surgerical Suite.

Good Luck,

Jolene
