san antonio girls home
I am looking for info on a girls home in San Antonio Texas that was located across a high school. It is no longer there and I was wondering if there was anyway to locate it or find info about it.
Thanks |

Giggles, do you know the name of the agency that ran the maternity home or any other info about it?
You know, I believe that the Buckner Home was one of the major maternity homes, adoption agencies, and orphanages in the state of Texas for many years. (I did a lot of research on the Buckner family for genealogy purposes several years ago.) There used to be a maternity home in San Antonio called the Buckner Baptist Maternity Home (I think its formal name was the Bethesda Home). But I don't know if there was a high school across the street from it. If you could give me any info you have at all on the maternity home, I could do a search for you on some historical sites I've got bookmarked for Texas.

I did find out it was buckner. Do you know how one could get their records from the agency? My aunt was sent there and then sent to foster care. She was not pregnant so there should be no restrictions with closed records etc.

The umbrella organization is Buckner International. I think the adoption branch (or ministry) is called Buckner Foster Care and Adoption Services. Formerly it was known as Buckner Baptist Benevolences.
I took a look at their website, www.buckner.org, and found the following contact information: Buckner Adoption and Maternity Services 5200 South Buckner Blvd. Dallas, Texas 75227 214-319-3426 (local) 1-866-236-7823 (toll free) 214-319-3470 (fax) adoption@buckner.org Buckner International, U.S. Headquarters 600 North Pearl Street, Suite 2000 (20th floor) Dallas, TX 75201 214-758-8000 (local) 1-800-442-4800 (toll free) e-mail: information@buckner.org
