There is a home in South Buffalo, NY. It is called Father Bakers Infant Home. It was in full swing in the early 70's. I know, I was there in 1975. It also may be listed under Baker Victory Services. Hope this helps, and good luck. |

The home in South Buffalo/Lackawanna is now called Our Lady of Victory Infant Home. was also called Father Baker's in 60's and 70's. The person I contacted there was Denise Loretto. She was very helpful in giving me what information she could.

Were you looking as a adoptee or a birthmother, and if it was as a birthmother, what kind of information could she give you. I would like to contact the woman at the infant home, but I want to make sure she is the one that can help me.

I am a birthfather looking for my daughter born 4/26/71. Denise at OLV was able to verify that the birthdate I remembered was correct. She was able to give me nonidentifying info from the birth certificate (time of birth, hair and eye color, weight) and whether or not the adoption was in NY state. It has been more difficult for me being a birthfather since I was not listed on any of the paperwork. There were notations that the father was present at the relinquishment but my name was not given. I did sign the paperwork at the time hoping that my daughter would some day look for me but somehow the papers I signed did not end up in the file. If you were adopted through OLV Denise is the one you want to talk to. She was very compassionate and extremely helpful.

Thanks for your anwser, I'm sorry it took me so long to get back, but the cable modem on my computor was out for three days and I had to wait for the cable company, you know how that is. I am not an adoptee, I am a birthmother, looking for my daughter, born 4-16-76. I stayed at OLV while I was pregnant. I was told at the time I signed the adoption papers, that a note would be left in my file, for my daughter, should she ever wish to find me. I have never heard another word. Did this Denise give you any info that would help you with your search? I already know the information that you listed, as I was there at the time, and kept the baby at OLV for 6 weeks, before I signed the papers. I was not sure about adoption, and at 15, I was talked into it. I need more info than that , I just don't know how much they can tell me. I'm sure that if you were present at the time the papers were signed that those papers have to be filed somewhere. I was told at the time I signed that the birthfather did not have to sign, because NY State only needed the mother. They told me it would help, to have the father sign, but the adoption would still be legal without it, as I guess back then, the father had very little rights. I think that youur search will be harder than mine. I will be glad to help you in any way I can. If you need any information about OLV or the way they did things back in the 70's, let me know, I am pretty much an expert on Father Bakers, I lived there for 4 months.
