I have been found

The daughter that I had to place for adoption when I was very young has found me and it only took her about six weeks! This past sunday I opened an email that had contact info for a person claiming to be a friend of the now adult, baby girl, that I placed for adoption twenty-three years ago. I wanted to protect myself and the adoptee from emotional heart-ache, so at the risk of sounding rude, I asked what items had been sent with her when she left the hospital. The reply was totally amazing! This woman described the blanket that I had made for my daughter while I was pregnant. Since then I have been on the roller coaster ride of my life, laughing one minute and crying the next.
this would not have happened if I had not regstered for contact. I will forever be grateful for online adoption-Reunion registration.

Congratulations on your new reunion! My son found me over 6 years ago. I now write a blog for adoption.com on search and reunion. Love to have you check it out.

There is lots of information about reunion and different issues that might arise for you.

Talking Congratulations!!!

This is such wonderful news!!!

And I agree that online reunion registration is instrumental in search and reunion efforts. My daughter and I posted on this web site in 2000 but my bson didn't see it when he posted in 2005 (our contact info was out-of-date by then). I found his 2005 post this past Jan (2007) and we have been in reunion since, via e-mail. Still looking forward to the F2F.

It IS a rollercoaster ride, isn't it? I wasn't prepared for all the emotions that came pouring out, but have been working my way through it with the help of these forums and a couple of very good books: "The Adoption Reunion Resource Guide" (excellent book!), and "The Girls Who Went Away" (which helped me to understand better what happened in my own situation).

Again, congratulations and best wishes on your new journey!

Peace, Love and Laughter,
Susan

Very nice

I think it's wonderful. I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster for you. I just barely registered for my home state Adoption registry. I'm hoping there may be someone looking, either bio-siblings or parents.
I have looked online, but most online registries seem to want money...are there free ones, or are they worth my time? I feel like I'm running out of time.

There is a free registry here at this site that you could try... and there is also a free registry.. one of the biggest world wide called International Soudex Registry.. "ISSR"...it should pop up if you Google it.. good luck in your search..sal

When I was searching for my b/mom, I (registered my info and) looked in every free registry there was. I even submitted to the Soundex Reunion database.

But to no avail. My b/mom did not know those places existed. She was also told to not contact the adoption place.

I've written a little piece on the birth parent forum (Dear Birth Parents). Check it out. Maybe it will give you some other ideas and a general idea of what information adoptees do receive.

B/dad found. Deceased: 21 September 1996.
Looking for a possible half-sister born 25 May, 1967/68.

Anyone have a good source for cheap legal DNA testing?

Congratulations!! I myself was adopted when I was 6yrs old. I know what it is like to be the child who finds the parent. I found my birth father 14 yrs ago. It can be a roller coaster. He has been a big part of my life since then. Infact, now I am presently taking care of his mother(my grammy). It has been wonderful. I hope that you and your daughter are able to have a great relationship together like my dad and I have. Good Luck and I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers!! God Bless both of you!
