i'm in a similar place as you...

i recently began my search and found an address that i think may be his, but i'm not positive. i have began an initial letter that i think is short and sweet, i'll attach it here for you, so maybe you can get some ideas...

' My name is Elise..., but I was born Dominique.... I was born in San Francisco in September of 1979, and was later adopted into a new family. I am now 25 years old and I have just received adoption papers giving me your name as my birth father. There are additional papers that you have signed indicating your willingness for me to contact you. I understand that a lot may have changed over that past 25 years and that you may have changed your mind on this matter, but I am hoping to talk to you and learn more about you. I realize that my contacting you may be a big surprise; my intent is not to upset your current life, I would just like to know more about you and my background.
I am not going to write much in this letter because at this point I do not know if it will actually reach you, but if you do get this please, please contact me. I have had a very happy and healthy childhood, and I would be happy to share many of the details of my life with you. I do not hold any grudges against you or my birth mother for relinquishing the rights to me, but I have always been interested in who you are, and where I come from.
I have attached some recent pictures of me, maybe at some point I can show you some of me growing up.'

good luck, i know how daunting this is!!
