I am searching for my mother's bmother. She has searched and has not had any luck. She was born in Biddeford, Maine at St. Andre's Home for Unwed Mothers on June 26, 1951. We do not know much else. Please let me know if you might have any information.

I didn't find out about St. Andres until I started reading posts here. I knew I was born in Biddeford in 1950, but didn't know where. I called St. Andres on Dec. 30 to find out if I was born there. The sister I needed to speak to was not in. I finally spoke with her on Wed., January 7, 2004...by that evening I was speaking to one of my aunts. I spoke with Sister Theresa at St. Andres and she verified that I had been born there. She couldn't give me any specific info, but advised me to call the county probate court. Adoption records prior to 1953 are not sealed on the county level....only on the state level. Once I had a last name I searched the marriage and death records for Maine. I found records for my grandmother and grandfather and they showed that they were from Waterville. I then searched phone listings for Waterville and started calling every one with that last name. The last call I made was the magic one. Being adopted prior to 1953 made it pretty easy. Good luck to you and if there is anyway I can help, feel free to ask.
