The Lutheran Church and Adoption: Resources and Support

I just found this Lutheran forum here on Adoption.com. It kinda serves my point here.

I'm wondering if you feel supported in your adoption story by your church. Do you think there are resources available from your church that that help you?

My husband and I spent several years struggling with infertility and now nearly 3 years trying to adopt. We've both come to recognize that our journey is coming to an end whether we adopt children or not.

Throughout the struggle, I can say that I don't feel that I've gotten support from our church. The adoption information on LCMS's website is obscure and way over simplified. We are using one of the LSS agencies but our worker doesn't even have a basic understanding of the Lutheran faith- well off the ability to share our walk in this path with our faith. Our pastor has four children five years apart and it's always been clear that he has no idea what this walk is like. (And, while I like our pastor, counseling is not our strength.) Our fellow church members, well, they mean well I suppose but most of the time they really don't help either.

It's not that my faith isn't strong when it comes to this process. . . I've had to really work at that on my own. I just wish I had more support in this journey from our synod, "our agency", and our church.

What resources and support do you wish you had?
