Fight for Open Records - NY
How many of you out there are willing to fight to change the laws and have our Adoption records opened to us? Is there anyone out there already doing so?
I'm in New York, and would dearly love to see the days of sealed records gone for good. Anyone have any ideas on how to get started? Does anyone have any idea how to go about making this a Federal change? |

I filed a petition to open my file since I could prove my birthmom was deceased as are my adopted parents. I wanted to have proof that I was baptised as an infant. I waited 18mths. Spent about $4,000. It looked like a law clerk's response... petition denied. I am in KY, but I was born in NY. No, it won't happen at the federal level. You have to fight at the state level. I would see if you can find at least one legislator that is willing to fight for the cause. I think there aqlready is a NY group trying each legislative session.
