I will start at the beginning so you can understand. In august of 2004 the birth mother left state and left her then 4 month old son with us. We had already had him since he was 2 weeks. In November of 2004 I had to go for guardianship as the state was going to step in and take him. The parents were said to have abandoned him. Now it is 4 years later and I am wondering what steps I have to take to adopt him. I was going to post a letter in the newspaper where they lived last I knew but I have no idea where to start and legal fees are so high here. He is a special needs child due to drug abuse on her part while pregnant, we are all he knows and I just want this finalized. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You should be able to at least talk to an attorney who knows adoption law. It might cost you an office visit to get the info you need. Somewhere along the way, you will need a lawyer becasue adoption is a legal matter.
