Legal Insurance?

My husband and I have legal insurance through his job and it states in the handbook that it covers any legal fees associated with the adoption of a child. Although it also states that it does not cover fees for out of country legal expenses. Has anyone used such an insurance for their adoption? This is our fist adoption and I'm just curious how this would work. We have yet to choose an agency and we are still in the research process. All the agencies list fees differently. Some list as "Program Fees" and others as "Legal Fees"...what is actually legal fees? Just curious if anyone has ever dealt with this kind of insurance...

I am not a legal expert. But I do know that if your legal insurance is like any other insurance policy, then it is a contract and the terms ("legal fees," etc.) acquire the meaning as defined by the policy. If the policy does not define "legal fees" then one looks to the common-usage meaning of the words. Legal fees usually mean attorney fees and court costs, not medical expenses, home studies, etc., unless an attorney is the one charging for it. But that is a general definition. Read the policy carefully and if still in question, call the insurer and ask, and, get it in writing if possible. Remember also, that the policy language takes precedence over what an insurance agent actually tells you, should a conflict arise later about whether you were misled.
