My son has ADHD, and is in 1st grade.
I would appreciate any tips on how to have a working relationship with his teacher. She has a "traditional" style. She has focused primarily on my son's behavior and thinks a pill will fix it. He has an IEP for learning disabilities, we have been trying to find the right meds. He is now on Strattera. My husband & I have made ourselves available by phone and conferences. She just doesn't acknowledge that he isn't doing this on purpose.
At what point do you switch teachers?
He has been in school for 8 weeks.

Suggestions, ideas for what has worked for you would be appreciated.

Switching teachers depends more on your sons reaction to what's happening then yours or the teachers. If he feels like she's picking on him and you agree, a switch may be needed. I requested my son be given teachers who aren't bothered by movement as he still sometimes rocks to calm himself. Some teachers refuse to learn anything new and there's no point in bothering with them. Other teachers love a challenge and can be really great with a variety of different problems and still amnage to teach a great deal. If your child is o'kay with the situation, I would do nothing unless the teacher specifiacally requests it. If the child is bothered, you might as well move him, this teacher doesn't sound like she's very flexable.
