a question for all...
Do you think having two teenaged biological children already, son who is 16 and daughter who is 13, will affect the way a birth mother will look at us? My husband laughs and says that we are probably going to be about her parents age... I wonder if a birth mother would look at that as being negative. What are your thoughts about this?
Thanks. |

Through Parent Profiles it probably won't be an issue but through LDS Family Services alone it may. My husband and are probably about the same age as you and we have been waiting for over 5 years. The birth mothers at LDS Family Services get a "wish list" on what they want in a family just like we select what we prefer in a child. Our social worker at one time said that the average of what they are looking for "under 40, between 25 and 35". We figure that's why it is taking so long. That may not be the case for you though!

each bmom is looking for something different. At your age, I would definately not put all my eggs in one basket tho....

There are other agencies, that's for sure. When I wanted to adopt again, I called a lot of agencies in Utah and every one of them said if you are willing to accept an AA child, we needed to be ready right after putting our papers in. The agency we adopted both our AA kids from is always calling me, asking if I know of any couples who want to adopt AA babies because they have so many. If you feel your child is through LDSFS, then things will work out. If you aren't sure, explore your options, it's amazing what the Lord will throw in your path. We were going through LDSFS with both our children and the Lord had other plans!

We have a 15 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son and have been waiting for about 9 months. We feel birthmoms have different reasons for choosing a family for their child, but it seems the childless or families with one small child are placed. We are going internationally and would like to know if anyone has adopted in Guatemala? We would like to know what agency to go with!!

you might try asking on the guatemala boards. I DO know that Guatamala is close to being closed off. PM her if anyone has any suggestions.
