Hi,
I have heard a few conflicting things about the adoption law in Texas. My understanding is that the birthmom has to wait at least 48 hours to sign the papers and that once they are signed, it can only be revoked in the next 11 days and only if the original decree does not say "irrevocable." Someone else told me that they thought LDS FS said that they have 6 months to change their mind. Does anyone know the correct answer? Thanks! |

The birthmother cannot relinquish custody until 48 hours after giving birth. It can be revoked within the next 11 days. In the past, the grace period was six months, but in recent years, it has been decreased to eleven days. Hope this helps, ~Sharon |
