At the rate of sounding stupid, can I ask what non-id means?

Wow, you can get that kind of information? Please let me know if you find out how or where!

I believe you need to go thru the agency/office where your adoption was handled. Call LDSFS in your area (google it to find the website for one near you) and simply ask what is possible and what can be done.

You absolutely are entitled to non-identifying information. However you must contact the agency that you went through and it costs $50.00. You will probably have to take the bull-dog approach and insist on them getting the information to you even after you have paid. Good Luck.

I don't know if this is too old a post to help but I got the non-identifying info from the court where the adoption was handled for my daughter. The agency wouldn't give me a single solitary thing because the adoption was a "closed adoption" (my daughter was born in 1976) and they refused to give me ANYTHING. That was 10 years ago though.
If you know the court (county where she was adopted) they will have whatever they were given about the adoptive parents and the family and other non-id info in the files at the time of the adoption. I don't remember if it cost me anything when I got that information years ago. I just remember not getting any from the agency (that's where I went first) but getting it from the court where the adoption took place. Rylee |

What state did the adoption take place in? State laws supercede any agency agreements. Don't give up hope, that'w what the agency wants you to do.

Go to your local LDS Social Services and explain to them what you're looking for. As an adult adoptee (born in 1970, adopted through LDS Social Services) I was able to easily obtain all kinds of non-identifying info regarding my birthparents, their parents, and even a little bit about my birthmother's siblings at no cost whatsoever.
Good luck!

That is so refreshing to hear. I also went through the LDS agency for adoption. That just made my day!
