Hi all. I was adopted through the LDSSS office in Altamonte Springs, FL. I was born in Orlando on November 29, 1978 and raised around the Jacksonville, FL area. I'll be checking the local office near where I live now, in Texas, to see what I can get as far as non-ID info. I have been told my birth-mother was NOT LDS.

I did have one question about custody of newborns in the LDSSS/LDSFS system. My adoption wasn't final until about 6 months after I was born, and from my file I believe I was with an LDS family (not my adoptive family, also LDS of course) during that time. My question is, does anyone know if that is typical for LDS adoptions, or odd in any way?

Also, I have a lead on finding my birth family, the only major incongruity being that my potential bio-sister believes her bio-brother was adopted through Florida's HRS system (now DCF). Would it ever have been possible for LDSSS to have gained custody of a baby from the state, and then adopted it out through their own agency? Could that explain my 6-month gap?
