Hi T-Snapp,
I am a reunited birthmother who relinquished through LDSFS in GA and the laws there are different than in CA. But here is what I DO know. First, you can get non-identifying information about your birthparents through LDSFS. You will need to contact the local agency that your parents went through for the adoption and have them send you a form. Unfortunately, the information is not free. Last time I checked they charge $50.00. Also ask them for a consent-to-contact form. This will give your birthparents and you the right to each others' information, but only if you both fill out the forms. They must be notarized. Also call the the state of CA and get them to send you the same forms so you are registered with them also: California Department of Social Services Adoption Branch 744 P Street, MS 19-31 Sacramento, CA 95814 (916) 322-3778 [url="http://www.childsworld.ca.gov/PG1314.htm"] Don't let LDSFS tell you that you are not entitled to the non-identifying information That is not true. Give them time, but no more than a month before you call and check up on them. If you either of your birthparents have registered with either LDSFS or the state, you should be able to make contact. If not, maybe you can get some clues for the search from the nonidentifying information. Also, if you can, ask your parents for any information they have about your adoption. Register with the reunion registry here and at any other free site as well as the ISRR [url="http://www.isrr.net/registration.shtml"] Read all you can and get help from people on the forums and wherever you can. You never know when or where the breakthrough will come. Good Luck and let me know if I can help. Deb |

Geogdeb is always right
Good luck and she is correct. I put in for my non-id info a year ago or so and it was a great comfort, and yes do put in your consent to contact form.I am willing to bet that your birth parents probably already have. It would be awesome if my daughter did the same as you are now! good luck and god bless you. |

My husband put in for his non identifying information two years ago and put a consent to contact for in his file. After not stressing about it and living our lives, LDSSS called us yesterday with new information and would like to meet with us! EXCITING/SCARY!!!
Do what you can do and then... who knows!?! |
