? about LDSSS from adoptee
I have a 3 month old daughter and when looking at pic. of me at exactly 2 months I look the same size and I am doing things a 2 month old just dosent do. My daughter is in the 60th % for height and weight and it just seems odd. Could they have put the wrong birthdate on my birthcert ?? I asume they wouldnt since there mormon and all but just wondered if anyone else has wondered this. Also I have read of moms being sent away to give birth. Did LDSSS do this?? Could my Bparents in fact been from another state or town?? If so how am I suppose to conduct my search?? Any suggestions would be awsome. Thanx all!
Oh and the info I do have is I was born 10-23-81 in Dallas Texas my mom was 18 and wanted to finish school and marry in the temple, Dad was non-mo and they say he went to the hospitle to offer to marry my Bmom and she said no. I was in foster care until my parents got me December 1 1981. I have heard conflicting info from my Aparents about the whole thing. |

Laura, I am a birthmother, LDS, lived in FL and was sent to Salt Lake City, UT for birth of my baby girl. This was in 1969. I know it was pretty common because as it happened, we had 3 Wards in Miami where I lived and I was told that a girl I just knew distantly had also been sent to Salt Lake City. There are alot of possibilities. Maybe there was a family friend, or relative in TX.
Have you checked with the LDSFS (LDS Social Services is now LDS Family Services)? If not, you need to contact the LOCAL LDSFS and let them know you want nonid and to register with them. Don't expect them to welcome you with open arms - I and any others asking for info are treated a bit strangely but you are entitled. Do you live in TX? Not sure how you get info from the state as I am dealing with UT (a nightmare). You may have options there. I know there is a section on this site that tells what the requirements to search for each state. Good luck, PM me if you wish. Don't know if I can give you anything more but happy to try or just to "listen". Linda |

Thanks so much for the info. I feel kinda silly but part of me hopes that my info is wrong because I dont want to think that non of my Bio family has gone searching for me. It kinda gets frustrating searchng registry after registry and finding nothing.
Ill keep trying though. |

Lds
I have heard of people receiving all sorts of inaccurate info including changed birth dates. LDS are not pro-reunion, so, I would not be too surprised if some of the info you have might be not totally true.
And yes, lots of birth moms are sent away to other states. I believe that your adoption records would be in the state that you were adopted in, probably not the state that you were born it. LDS does have a website that might help too. Good luck! Last edited by Southernroots : 11-27-2005 at 10:36 PM. Reason: typo |

P.s.
You do not know that your birth family has not been searching for you - they just could be searching in different places.
Even if they are not - many birth moms do not realize that they can or should search - I didn't myself. I figured that my son wouldn't want to know me - thought he'd probably hate me. Not searching does not mean that they don't love and want to know you. I am so thankful that my son did find me. Since I'd not told anyone about him - it was a total shock, but, we've been reunited for over 4 years now - and I love him to pieces. |

Aww that sucks but its good to know that they might just have the wrong info. I dont know how im going to do this search now. If they might have lied about my birthdate and I may not have even been born in texas then I dont even know where to begin to search. That stinks that they would do that to people. They are so pro-Geneology and all.

Thats awsome that your son found you. I hope meet someone from my Biofamily so I can learn anything about my history. My Biomom was suppose to be adopted also so I may never find any info about that side of my history.

Searching
Your adoption records should be where you were adopted, not where you were born, I am fairly certain. LDS should be able to get you started too even though they don'r promote reunions. Your adoptive mom doesn't know for certain where you were born?
I love having my son in my life and it's been fun filling him in on his "roots". As you can tell from my screen name, I am from the South, so, I am getting him up-to-speed on barbeque and other types of Southern dishes. We both like to cook, so, that's fun. I took him a couple of Southern cookbooks the first time we met in person. Amazing how adoption does run in so many families. I know an adoptee whose mother was adopted too - but she searched for her mother's mother (her grandmother) and the three of them all got to know one another. |

Dallas TX
Hi Laura
Since you were born in Dallas and your adoption was finalized in Dallas, you can request your adoption file and also your original birth certificate through the Court. Dallas is the only County that will do this in the State of TX. All other Counties in TX, you are required to know the birthparent name on your original birth certificate before you can get a copy of it, that does not include the adoption file. Info is below: Court phone number: 214 698-4330 Court fax number: Court address: 304th District Court Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Bldg. 2600 Lone Star Drive, 3rd floor Dallas, Texas 75212 Hon. John Sholden, Presiding HENRY WADE JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTER, RECORDS DEPT. 2600 LONE STAR DR. MAIL BOX 1 DALLAS TX 75212 IT IS IMPORTANT TO REQUEST BOTH THE ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND THE ADOPTION RECORD AS THERE COULD BE INFO ON ONE THAT DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE OTHER. Let us know how it goes!!

Hey Laura,
I just wanted to put in my two cents worth. I am a birthmother and lived in Tennessee. I was sent to Georgia to give birth. I might've been sent to Utah, but I grew up in Utah. A family friend also went through the system and she was sent to Utah. I believe they sent as many girls as possible to Utah since their adoption laws are so strict and anti-birthparents. I hope you find what you are looking for. Debbie |

Dallas TX adoption
Laura
I just pm'd you with what you need to do. It's a very short process and only takes approximately 5-7 days once you complete the form. You can call and get the form faxed to you or you can go in person and fill it out there. Paris
