Linda,

I will drive as far as I have to! How is your search going? Any luck with LDSFS. I can't believe they don't have your information. The church places too much importance on record keeping! Keep pushing - you know what they say about the squeaky wheel!

I'm fixated on this as well and really am starting to feel resentful about the entire situation. The genology aspect and the "families are forever" except for non mormons theme, etc. etc. etc.

I'm going to be in SLC for business next month and am planning on paying LDSFS a visit to see if I can pick up my information. I understand that it has been sent there from the Idaho branch that I went through 21 plus years ago. Should I request my non-identifying info before I go?

Yes you should... and expect to pay a $50.00 fee. They might not let you pick it up in SLC. Call the Idaho office and ask them about procedure. I went through the Georgia office. They sent me the forms to fill out. On the form there were boxes to check that asked what information was being requested. I checked the box that said "entire file". I don't know if they changed it in Georgia when I sent it back (the social worker there had to sign it also), but I am hoping that it was overlooked!

Anyway, good luck! I hope you are able to find what you need.

Paige/Debbie - I hope, maybe your local offices have better luck. When I spoke with the secretary at my local office (I gave her permission to speak with me to avoid having to wait for the Director) she indicated she had spoken directly with the person in SLC the second time my info was requested. They file only under birthmother name and baby dob. There (according to my info) are no other crossreferences, just for your info. Debbie, I would speak with your local branch to start with. Maybe you'll get it in time to be able to get more info when in SLC? Paige - you are on your way, evidently different offices do it differently. My local Director took info over phone then proceeded when my check for $50 was received. It took 3+ months to find out they had nothing, so I would give them 4 weeks at most and then start calling. The second time I gave them my info, the secty told me to call in one week. She was able to find out the answer which was they had nothing by then. Hope I didn't get you mixed up in my response. Linda

With the way the LDS keep records, there is no way that they don't have your information, Linda. For heavens sake, I haven't been to church in over 15 years, I never notify anyone when I move, my children have never been baptised and they still manage to track us down where ever we move! My daughter who is five hours away attending college was just contacted by the LDS young-singles group at her college. We all think we have a tracking device imbedded under our skin so we an be tracked!

My point is that they have our information and they should be able to access it quickly.

I was told that its all on microfilm in SLC.

Paige - sorry I did get you 2 mixed up. Did they say you could actually pick up in SLC? I hope so, maybe you can get more info. Keep us updated! I am just keeping going, I have 2 names from other sites (each posted only once in obscure sites) that are 4 and 9 days different from my bdaughters dob. I think they are both worth pursuing, if nothing comes of either once I have played out, I plan to get much more aggressive.

Again to both of you, keep us updated!!! Linda

Paige,

I think you're right about the tracking device. Unfortunately, they probably know how to cover their tracks also.

If I find any other information I will let you know. I plan on grilling the social worker until he coughs up enough information for me to continue a search. At this point I don't even know where the adoption took place, or if his birthdate has been changed, or anything really. Maybe the noniden. information will help.

From what I was told, it is unlikely that the adoption took place in the state that I relinquished from. I was also told that it is very likely that the birthplace was changed on the birth certificate. Makes it almost impossible to know what state register to join!

It's all very frustrating.

Debbie,
When was your baby born? what year? I go through LDS services in Tucker, Ga. Last time I called to start searching again and told me they would take a message to have the correct person speak to me and that was over a year ago. You have to hound them. I have a sister born in 1978 that was adopted. I know why she was. I was adopted in 1981. Hope this helps.

Hi Amygail,

I relinquished in 1979 through the LDSSS in Tucker, GA. I got them to do a confidential intermediary search AND THEY FOUND MY SON!! However, I had to fight and fight to get them to follow GA laws. The search did not happen until 2006 (2 years AFTER I tried to get non-ID). I will PM you.

Deb

LDSFS Intermediary search?

Congratulations on your find. Have you had a good reunion? I hope so.

LDSFS has an confidential intermediary search? What do I need to do or how do I inquire about that? Could I please get some information about that? I can give you an email to send the information to.

Red face I too was lied too by LDSFSS

Wow, I have read through everyone's responses and looks like I wasn't the only one who has had some horrible experiances with LDSFSS. I placed my daughter nearly 20 years ago through them in Seattle. I received very very generic info about the adoptive family, such as height, weight, hair color, hobbies and career info. That was it and that was all I would ever get.

I had a case manager who lied to me from day one. I was made to help serve the rapist court papers to relenquish his rights. I was fored to place my baby in foster care for 2 1/2 months before the case manager got his act together and finaly completed paper work.

The LDSFSS refuse to help even in open adoptions where a-parents have not kept their end of the bargan or started photos, letter, contacts. I all comes down to the fact birth parents have no rights once the paperwork is signed and I have been told they church refuses to help reunited birth families and their kids.

I found my daughter 3 weeks ago through here on the reunion registry. She didn't have anything to go from either, just the hospital, doctor name and state along with her birthdate and time.

In many stated birth parents and adoptees can go down to the local court house and sign to open their section of closed adoption records. Once both have done so, than the stated is required to provide all identifiable information to either party. I don't know if this applies for any of you in Utah or Florida, but it might be a change. Also try ALMA, they over ride closed adoptions records and actually help locate the birth parent and/or child.

Thanks for helping me when I didn't even know others were hear with similar stories.

Joy
