Girl born 2/23/79, Seattle, Wa. Looking for birth parents, starting from scratch.

Hi, my name is Sara, and I was born on February 23, 1979 in Seattle, Washington, and placed through the LDS adoption agency. The lady who handled the ordeal was named McKensey (sp), and I was actually placed on 2/26/79.

My parents were both 18 at the time, cohabitating but not married, and both were LDS. My mother was 5'4" and skinny, with brown curly hair and brown eyes. My father was 5'11" and skinny, with blonde hair and blue eyes. I got the curly hair--I wish I would have inherited the "skinny"!!! My mom liked to ride horses and sing (I call that the karaoke gene...thanks Ma), and my birth dad was an apprentice carpenter and liked fishing and woodworking. I have no idea if they're still in Seattle. I'm not. I live in St. Louis now.

Anyway, I am looking for my birth parents (duh). It's more out of morbid curiosity than anything. I would be content with a picture of either of them...a first name would be a nice start as well. I certainly wouldn't want to disrupt whatever lives they've built for themselves. I guess I'd just like to thank them for giving me this awesome , amazing chance to live because there were other options, and one day I'd like to be able to thank them face to face.

Searching Resources

Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board:

NOTE:
The State of Washington has a “Confidential Intermediary” search program that will locate and contact birth relatives. Contact the adoption agency that facilitated the adoption or the office below:

Washington Department of Social and Health Services
Children's Administration
PO Box 45713
Olympia, WA 98504
(360) 902-7959 or (360) 902-7968
Fax: (360) 902-7903

Using a Confidential Intermediary: The following persons may use the confidential intermediary service: adopted adults age 21 or older; adoptees under age 21 with permission of adoptive parents; birth parents, birth siblings, and birth grandparents. The person “found” may decline contact and if so, you will not be given information to contact them yourself.

Obtaining Non-Identifying Information: Adoptive parents, adopted adults, and birth parents may obtain non-identifying information. Contact the adoption agency that facilitated the adoption for this information.

Obtaining Identifying Information: Identifying information is provided through a confidential intermediary system. Adopted adults also can file a form for disclosure or nondisclosure with the Department of Health.

Obtaining an Original Birth Certificate: An adopted adult age 18 or older can receive the birth certificate if the adoption was finalized after October 1, 1993, and each birth parent has not filed an affidavit of non-disclosure.

Good Luck

It sounds like we had the same case worker. I was born 03/25/73 and placed for adoption thru LDSSS in Renton, WA. Bernice MacKenzie was the case worker.

I wish you the best of luck, you are a lucky one to have as much info on your bparents as you have. I have nothing.

Washington does have a non-profit organization to help reunite families that are separated by adoption -- I will PM you the info (I'm stillnot sure what info I can list on the postings)

I had a really nice man post a message about WARM to one of my threads. He used them to help locate his son, he said the complete process only took 6-8 weeks and there were minimal fees. I also stumbled across the web site for WARM last night -- warmsearch.org --

Good luck in your search!
